Can Richardson Seating make Boston Fire Code Rated Furniture?
Boston Fire Code is one of the strictest fire codes in the country. We have lots of experience building restaurant furniture for Boston. We can do pretty much anything with enough time and resources. We have found that if we wrap the foam in Dacron and use a flame retardant foam we can get our bar stools and chairs to meet CAL 133. Most of the materials that we use are already CAL-117 2013 but we feel more confident when we change the foam and add a fire barrier. Many fire inspectors want to see labels on the bottom of the chairs and they want to see some sort of fire testing. We will typically build an extra unit and send it to a test center so we can prove that the chair in the vinyl you selected will meet the fire standards. It is a little time consuming and a little expensive to get the extra information but we can do it if that is what your town needs. We have shipping hundreds of orders into Boston. We are able to change the materials to make our bar stools work for your rules. Boston furniture is tough but we make it easy. Boston Fire code rated furniture is just one of the many things that we can do at our factory. Since we hand upholster each item on site, it is easy to add a Dacron fire barrier or switch out the foam. Fire retardant foam used to be standard, but with the change of California's laws, most foam no longer has fire retardants. According to California the chemicals cause cancer. California has always been a leader in product safety. We make sure that our wood is CARB compliant and we make sure that we have proper documentation when shipping to California for Prop 65. Whatever fire code you need to comply with, even fire codes in Europe, we can figure a way to make our furniture safe and compliant. For more information on Cal 133 or Cal 117, we have dedicated articles.
